Melbourne Renegades coach Andrew McDonald says it’s surprising Kane Richardson missed national ODI selection.

Australia named its squad on Wednesday that will face off against England in five limited-overs matches later this month and national selectors made a number of bold calls, headlined by the omission of Glenn Maxwell.

Richardson – who’s played 15 ODIs for Australia – was part of the 50-over squad that toured India in September and October last year.

“He was probably a bit stiff (to miss),” McDonald said when quizzed by Macquarie Cricket’s Dean Jones.
