Shane Warne will be honoured at Stadiums around the country this afternoon.

The legendary bowler will be farewelled during a memorial event at the MCG attended by around 50-thousand people.

Media personality Eddie McGuire is serving as the master of ceremonies for the service and told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings that global superstars, crickets fans, family and friends will all pay tribute.

Along with other venues, Optus Stadium will also open its gates to fans with around 15 hundred free tickets snapped up for the screening at Optus Stadium this afternoon, with registration mandatory.

“The way he looked after all his friends, it didn’t matter if it was Elton John, Mick Jagger, or blokes down at the East Sandringham Cricket Club,” he said.

“He was just fantastic. He sprinkled his gold dust everywhere (and) he had a contact book as thick as the yellow pages, but he would use it to help anybody.”

Press PLAY to hear the full chat with Eddie McGuire and how he feels about presenting the event.

Listen to the Shane Warne Memorial coverage from 4pm AWST on Perth Live with Oliver Peterson.
