Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has paid tribute to outgoing MPs Greg Hunt and Christian Porter.

Mr Porter announced he would quit politics in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

He said he had “no regrets” from his career but admitted he had experienced the harsher side of politics.

Mr Frydenberg said it was clear from that statement “the toll political life has had on his family”.

“I think it’s accentuated when you’re representing an electorate in Western Australia, the long distances which you have to travel every Parliamentary fortnight,” he said on 6PR Breakfast.

“And politics is pretty unforgiving … you take no prisoners in politics.”
