Optus Stadium CEO Mike McKenna says he’s “not confident” Perth will host an Ashes test, and admits it’s getting “close to the wire” as to when Cricket Australia need to make a call.

Hopes of a fifth Ashes Test in mid-January were all but dashed after Premier Mark McGowan confirmed there would be no exceptions to 14 days of quarantine.

“I’m not confident,” Mr McKenna said on 6PR Afternoons.

“It’s mainly because of an absence of communication, we just right at the moment are sitting here waiting for someone to tell us what’s going on.

“We know that Cricket Australia have a board meeting today, we know they’ve been in conversation with health authorities here in WA for quite a while, and we’re just waiting for a decision to be made.

“It’s getting pretty close to the wire right now.”
