WA Labor’s longest-serving politician, Alannah MacTiernan, has announced her retirement from politics.

The Regional Development and Agriculture Minister will leave politics in January, saying it’s time to pass the baton to up-and-coming talent.

MacTiernan told Oly Peterson on Perth Live that she always strived to do the best for her community.

“If there’s a point to being in these jobs, it is not occupying the crease,” she said.

“I always felt driven and never felt happy being content with the status quo,

“The whole point was to take our community forward.”
