The Master Builder’s Association say the Federal Government’s proposed changes to industrial relations law could put an end to the careers of more than 264,000 trade workers.

The planned reforms will affect independent contractors with Master Builders arguing it will end their ability to run their own businesses.

Master Builders’ industrial relations National Director Shaun Schmitke told Gary Adshead onĀ 6PR Mornings the laws were initially aimed at limiting the growing gig work industry, but would potentially open the door to overregulation of the building industry.

“It means independent contractors could be forced to become employees; it could make them subject to one-size-fits-all arrangements,” Mr Schmitke said.
