A week after being sworn in as the new Corrective Services Minister, Paul Papalia has conceded there’s a fair amount of work to be undertaken before he’s in a position to tackle the Banksia Hill issue.

Mr Papalia told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings he had been aware of the issues facing the detention centre as much as anyone else, and hoped to return it to an operable level.

“I got sworn in on Thursday, Friday I was in Brisbane for a police minister’s meeting, yesterday I went and visited Banksia Hill,” Mr Papalia said.

“I’m taking briefings, I’m reading myself into the portfolio. I can say I’m getting an impression of the extent of the challenge.”
