The Federal Government may step in to protect people from sharks with the Federal Environment Minister saying he welcomes any proposal, including culling.

Minister Josh Frydenberg made the statement yesterday and the Federal Member for Canning Andrew Hastie agrees.
‘Since 1998 when the Great White Shark was made a protected species under the Federal Act, we’ve seen a spike in non fatal and fatal shark attacks in Western Australia,’ Mr Hastie told 6PR Breakfast.

‘Potentially, removing the shark off the protected species list will allow the WA State Government to put in measures where we can cull the shark, reduce the numbers and generally make our beaches safer for more Western Australians,’ he added.
