Dees win in Darwin

The Melbourne Demons may have been inaccurate but they still recorded a 54-point win over the Fremantle Dockers at Darwin’s TIO Stadium on Saturday night, 13.24 (102) 7.6 (48).

Jesse Hogan kicked three behinds before he managed a major, and the trend continued for the Demons finishing with an incredible 24 behinds. Fremantle stayed in the game for the first half, but were blown away in the second with three goals to Melbourne’s eight.

Stephen Hill worked hard for his 25 disposals in his 200th game for Fremantle, while Michael Walters, Tommy Sheridan and Brennan Cox all kicked two goals each.

The Dees made four changes ahead of their home game in the top end. Fremantle lost some big names including Nat Fyfe and Hayden Ballantyne and Aaron Sandilands remains on the sidelines making space for young big man, Sean Darcy.

Hear how the game played out…

The Fremantle team stayed out on the ground after the loss to discuss their performance with acting captain David Mundy.

“We spoke about how that’s two weeks in a row that we’ve put up poor performances and two weeks before we put up a couple of really good ones,” Tom Sheridan told 6PR.
“You can go either way, you can sulk or you can get back on the horse and train really hard and fire up for next week,” he added.

“We’ve got a young group, but we need to get harder, consistently harder in the contest,” Ross Lyon said after the game.
