The Fremantle Dockers looked at home in their first outing at Optus Stadium defeating the Essendon Bombers by 16-points.

Fremantle kicked the first two goals, but the Bombers quickly answered back to edge in front briefly and then again in the second quarter. Fremantle kept the pressure on Essendon to run ahead with the 16.10 (106) to 14.6 (90) victory.

Adam Cerra was welcomed on debut with two goals, new Docker Brandon Matera also kicked two majors, while Matt Taberner tallied up three.

Zach Merrett joined us after their loss.

Former Freo coach, turned Essendon assistant coach spoke with 6PR about the match up on Saturday morning.

“We’ll need a team effort, we don’t have that one person that we’ll say, ‘listen, you need to go with Nat Fyfe all day’, that’s unrealistic for us. We do expect him to bob up forward at times,” Essendon Assistant Coach Mark Neeld told 6PR moments before bouncedown.

“Hopefully we can get a full house, but all reports it gets pretty loud when the stadium gets rocking, so hopefully we can get them involved early and keep them involved for most of the game,” Fremantle Assistant Coach David Hale told 6PR before the game.
