The Fremantle Dockers have secured top spot on the ladder after a big 54-point win over the Melbourne Demons at Domain Stadium on Sunday.

The Dockers stormed into the game with five goals in the first quarter while the Dees were left goalless and struggled through the remainder of the game for the 17.6 (108) to 8.6 (54) finish.

Melbourne not only lost the game, but also lost their captain early in the match when Nathan Jones went off with an injury in his 200-game milestone.

Fremantle had 11 separate goal kickers in their dominating run over Melbourne with Danyle Pearce and Matthew Pavlich both kicking three goals each before Pavlich was subbed off in the final term.

David Mundy was impressive with 35 disposals and Lachie Neale also clocked up 34 disposals.
