Whiteman Park has been revealed as the new preferred location for Perth’s $100 million state of the art film studio.

Fremantle port was secretly scrapped as the location after logistical problems and a budget blowout.

This afternoon Mark Gibson revealed on The Catch-Up that the state government and the developers are now pushing ahead with plans for a film studio at Whiteman Park, 25 minutes northeast of the CBD.

Fremantle mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said she hoped they would build the studio somewhere in the port city.

“There’s a lot of land in Fremantle where we could put something like this,” she said.

“There’s the Beaconsville Tafe site there’s a number of sites around Freo which we would be very happy to explore.”

City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin suggested WAAPA in Mount Lawley for the future location and that Whiteman Park didn’t make much sense.

“It doesn’t scream arts and events or film industry to me,” he said.

“I think if there’s anyway to save taxpayers money and come out with a really good outcome that suits everyone then all options should be considered.”
