Digger dies in Afghanistan

An Australian special forces soldier has died surrounded by his mates after he was found with a gunshot wound in Afghanistan.

Defence force chief Mark Binskin says the man’s colleagues found him in an admin building in Kabul overnight.

He was rushed to a medical facility for treatment but later died from his injuries with his friends by his side.

Air Chief Marshal Binskin says it’s believed to be a non-combat related incident.

He declined to reveal any personal details about the soldier, who was from the Sydney-based Second Commando Unit, or say how many tours he had done in Afghanistan.
