The Gascoyne community of Carnarvon is at breaking point, due to never ending crime, antisocial behaviour and the ongoing emotional stress that comes with living in this situation.

6PR Mornings host Gary Adshead, received numerous messages from Carnarvon locals, 24 hours after the original story broke, who are desperate for the government to intervene.

Justin Borg, owner of Coral Coast Helicopter Services told Gary that his office has been broken into multiple times over the last few years.

“We have also had windows smashed on our house in the middle of the night, and it’s all these juvenile kids running a muck after hours, that is creating the stress for business owners and people in their homes,” Mr Borg said.

“Unfortunately the system here is a bit lenient towards young offenders.”

Len Paggi, a 64-year resident of the town, further told Gary that these children should be considered as criminals.

“My home has been broken into about 12 times, I’ve worked out that over the years they have caused around $400,000 worth of damage to me,” Mr Paggi said.

“I have put up a proposition, first of all we make the parents responsible and we get them to pay for the damages, secondly – we establish rehabilitation centres and it’s essential that someone is put in charge.”

Tracey is a concerned mother from Carnarvon who told Gary she is moving her family away from the town.

“I have a child to raise and seeing the things that happen in our streets is not very nice for him to grow up in – and there is just no opportunities for kids here,” she told Gary.

“There are numerous times where we have to call the police as there will be kids throwing rocks at cars and smashing windows of our car when we have our kids in the car.”
