Juniper chief executive Russell Bricknell told 6PR Mornings host Chrissy Morrissy that delays in assessment and support processes can have dire outcomes.
“There’s 13 Australians dying every day while waiting for support-at-home packages. That’s more than our national road toll”, he said.
Nicole Walton, owner of Choice Home Help in Geraldton, told Morrissy that the situation is even worse in regional areas. She explained that significant wait times often mean an individual’s needs have changed by the time help arrives, forcing the entire process to begin again.
“There are no nursing homes available, there is no respite available. So, we’re looking after people who would never, ever have been home before in previous years”, she said.
