A colonial inquest has revealed the death of Aishwarya Aswath could have potentially lived if she received urgent treatment when she was taken to the emergency department at Perth Children’s Hospital in 2021.

The Australian Medical Association believe the State Government has no choice but to accept the inquest’s recommendation.

AMA WA president Dr Mark Duncan-Smith told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live the government needs to change its priorities.

“It’s a damning indictment of the culture that was existing within the government,” said Dr Duncan-Smith.

“It’s compromised safety.”
