Concerns state’s ANZAC Day events won’t go ahead as planned

The WA RSL President is concerned a lot of the state’s ANZAC Day events won’t go ahead as planned because of COVID concerns.

ANZAC Day services will still be required to abide by covid safety measures, forcing the cancellation of several events across the state.

Kalamunda’s branch is moving their April 25 event to a different venue to allow more space and selling tickets to abide by capacity limits.

Duncan Anderson, WA RSL President, told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast that the state’s in a better position than it was this time last year, but every individual branch is different.

“Any service at this point is better than no service, and a lot of sub-branches, with the support of their local councils, have done a great job in being able to get services away in an environment where the conditions have changed so much,” he said.

“Let’s just hope that the next year we can welcome the full crowds back, particularly after the state War Memorial so let’s just hope we can get back to that an Australians can commemorate appropriately.”
