City of Vincent urges state government for greater tree protection amidst canopy crisis

The City of Vincent councillors reached a consensus to urge the state government for increased tree protection on private properties throughout Perth’s inner-city neighbourhoods.

City of Vincent mayor Alison Xamon told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live, “Here in the City of Vincent we need to be able to preserve as many trees as we possibly can. We are the lowest canopy-covered city in Australia, and that’s bad enough.”

“We are trying to proiritise the progress planning control so that we can have greater protection of trees and canopy provision on private land.”

“We want to really make sure that we are stepping up the advocacy to the WAPC and the Minister for Planning to ensure we’ve got greater protection of trees on private land,” Mayor Xamon said.
