After 354 games, 1066 goals, nine All-Australian picks, four Coleman Medals and his fair share of cheers and boos, Lance Franklin has hung up the boots.

The 36-year-old announced the news on social media with a picture of himself arm-in-arm with Sydney coach John Longmire and his former coach at Hawthorn, Alistair Clarkson.

Eagles legend and 6PR football commentator Glen Jakovich told Julie-anne Sprague onĀ 6PR Afternoons not many other former AFL players can boast such a complete highlight package.

“He’s the best showman we’ve seen in the last 50 years; he’s showtime, that’s what he is. A generational player,” Jako said.
