Battlers share emotional pleas ahead of federal budget

The Federal Government has some keen ideas to tackle the cost-of-living crisis without increasing inflation, but how the numbers will stack up won’t be known until tomorrow’s budget.

Australian Financial Review political editor Phil Coorey told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings instead of handing out money, the budget will reportedly subsidise utility companies who will then pass on discounts to customers.

“Because power bills contribute to the CPI, giving a discount to people will lower inflation; that’s the theory they’re working on,” Mr Coorey said.

“We”’ have to wait and see how that all pans out.”

6PR Listener and pensioner Maria called in to 6PR Mornings to emotionally express her concerns over the budget and her struggles balancing rent and food.

“These politicians are living in la-la land. How much are they earning?” Maria said.

“They don’t have to worry about rental assistance.”
