Scorchers Routed! 

The Perth Scorchers title defence is over after they were destroyed by a rampant Hobart side led by Matthew Wade (71) and Ben McDermott (67).

The Scorchers dominance in Big Bash cricket has ended with the fourth placed Hurricanes inflicting serious pain on the leagues most successful franchise.

The Scorchers were playing their first home game at the new Perth Stadium, and will find themselves a little bit unlucky – having a very good record, and good home ground advantage at the WACA, they leave Optus Stadium with a losing record overall.

Perth never looked like chasing down the imposing target of 210, sinking to 7/70 off 10 overs and leaving their first encounter at Perth Stadium with a loss.

Dan Christian was huge with the ball for the Hurricanes taking 4/17? off 3 overs whilst Tom Rogers also took 3 wickets early for the Hurricanes. Riley Meredith 1/29), Clive Rose (1/22)  all chipped in with late wickets.

The Scorchers limped to 139 from 17.5 overs which sent the Hurricanes to their second final in BBL history.

Matthew Wade was named man of the match with his 71 at the top of the order that gave the Hurricanes a great platform to build on throughout the innings.

Hobart made the BBL03 final against the Scorchers where they lost by 39 runs. They will look to go one better this time around against either the Adelaide Strikers or Melbourne Renegades who play tomorrow night at the Adelaide Oval.

Innings Break! 

A quickfire 71 from Matthew Wade has helped the Hurricanes post a handy total of ???. Wade played an exciting innings, getting his 71 from 45 balls, hitting Mitchell Johnson and the Scorchers bowlers attack all over Optus Stadium.

Some big late order hitting from Ben McDermott ensured the Hurricanes passed 200 – making things very difficult for the Scorchers – who will need to produce their highest total of BBL07 to ensure they head back to the final again. McDermott finished with 67 from 30 balls in an impressive display of hitting.

The Hurricanes have given themselves every opportunity to advance to the final as the Scorchers will look to advance to their sixth final in Big Bash history. It will take something very special from the home side as they look to put up their biggest total of BBL07.

The Scorchers will be reliant on Michael Klinger and Shaun Marsh to get them off to a quick start with Cam Bancroft, Mitch Marsh, Hilton Cartwright and Adam Voges to  bring them home in the big run chase.

Tim Bresnan was the pick of the Scorchers bowlers taking 2/40 from his 4 overs whilst Mitchell Johnson took a beating from the Hobart batsmen ending his 4 overs 0/43.

Preview

Perth is on the hunt for its sixth Big Bash Final – which is pretty remarkable when you consider this is only the seventh edition of the domestic T20 competition.

But can they match the hunger of the Hurricanes, who are gasping for their first taste of finals for four years?

The Scorchers officially have home ground advantage, however having never played a match at Optus Stadium before, they may not have much local knowledge to benefit from.

Key bowlers Ashton Agar and Andrew Tye will miss with national team duties, although Mitch and Shaun Marsh return to the squad.

Hobart are hit with the massive loss of D’Arcy Short, who leads the competition for runs (504), fours (47), and sixes (22), while maintaining a strike rate of 147.

Perth, having finished on top of the ladder, will host the Final if they win.
