It’s an opening-night thriller at Spotless Stadium as the Sydney Thunder win by five wickets with a final-ball single.
Shane Watson stole the show, blasting 77 off 46 deliveries, which included six fours and six sixes.
Debutant Daniel Sams was the pick of the bowlers for the Sydney Sixers, taking Watson’s wicket along with three others.

The bash and crash of the Big Bash is back and there’s no better way to start the season than with a Sydney Smash between the Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers.
The Thunder, led by captain Shane Watson, will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing eighth-placed finish in BBL|06. In stark contrast, the Sixers made the final last season and will be looking to go one better under the leadership of allrounder Moises Henriques.
As ever in the Big Bash, there’s a host of marquee international stars that are set light up the competition and tonight’s Sydney Smash will be no different.
Exciting Kiwi bowler Mitch McClenaghan is set to make his Thunder debut while British pair Jason Roy and Sam Billings both return for another season at the Sixers.
BBL|07 looms as the most exciting season yet, as the number of matches increases from 35 to 43 for the first time in league history.
