HURRICANES WIN

Hobart Hurricanes have broken Adelaide Strikers’ unbeaten record, winning by seven runs in front of 12,167 fans at Blundstone Arena.

Jofra Archer continued his recent purple patch for the Hurricanes, taking 3-14 off his four-over spell to lead the charge with the ball. If the Hurricanes are to mount a charge towards the finals, the West Indian will be central to their fortunes.

South African Colin Ingram was valiant as part of a losing side, smoking 66 off just 44 delivers. He continues to prove his worth in this revamped Adelaide Strikers lineup.

The Hurricanes back up for another home game in four days against the winless Sydney Sixers while the Strikers travel to Sydney for a date with the Thunder on January.

INNINGS BREAK – HURRICANES 4/183 AFTER 20 OVERS 

Hobart Hurricanes have set Adelaide Strikers a difficult 184 to win at Blundstone Arena tonight.

The home team recovered from a slow middle innings – failing to hit a boundary from the seventh to 11th over.

For a second game running, D’Arcy Short was the star for Adelaide Strikers. The 27-year-old backed up his 97 at Spotless Stadium on New Year’s Day by smashing 96 off 58 deliveries before painfully being dismissed just short of his century once more.

For the Strikers, Rashid Khan looked damaging throughout the 20 overs and was once again the Strikers best bowler – finishing with 2-18 off four overs. He also copped a heavy knock to the angle after Short’s straight drive bowled him over but recovered to complete his spell.

There’s plenty of questions surrounding Hobart Hurricanes and tonight’s clash may see some of those queries answered as they face a red-hot opponent in Tasmania’s capital.

The men in purple return home to face a rampant Adelaide Strikers – fresh off a crushing 56-run win over Brisbane Heat on New Year’s Eve.

The Hurricanes have also returned to winning ways after snapping a two-game losing streak as they ground out a tight nine-run win over Sydney Thunder three days ago.

On that occasion, D’Arcy Short was dismissed just three runs short of what would’ve been his maiden T20 century and was comfortably the man of the match.

West Indian Jofra Archer (2-42 off four) and spinner Cameron Boyce (2-14 off three) were the Hurricanes best with the ball in Sydney on Monday night, highlighting a vast improvement from their two opening games.

Tonight’s game is one that the Strikers simply can’t afford to lose if they have any ambition of finishing in the top two and securing a home semi-final. They’re currently second on the table behind just Perth Scorchers – who have played one extra game – and with ODI selection and injury impacting the men from the west, Adelaide will be looking to keep the pressure on the current league leaders.

The Hurricanes have been plucky so far during BBL|07 but on exposed form, look one of the weaker outfits this season. It’s all set up to be an absorbing contest that should tell us plenty about both sides.
