STRIKERS WIN

Adelaide Strikers have handed Hobart Hurricanes their first loss in six, winning by 11 runs.

The Hurricanes were up against it once D’Arcy Short was dismissed for just 28, feathering one to Alex Carey behind the stumps. Ben McDermott (45) and Alex Doolan (70*) combined magnificently to drag their side back into the contest but it proved to be in vain.

Rashid Khan (0-35) and Peter Siddle (1-18) put the clamps down to secure victory for the home team and were both particularly productive earlier in the innings.

INNINGS BREAK

Hobart Hurricanes have their work cut out tonight after the Adelaide Strikers set them 188 for victory.

Alex Carey (100) and Jake Weatherald’s (65) 171-run opening stand fell just short of the highest (172) opening partnership in BBL history.

Jofra Archer was in the thick of it again, throwing the stumps down for the first wicket and clean bowling Carey the very next delivery, finishing on an outstanding 3-27 off four overs.

It’s all to play for in the second innings in Adelaide.

PREVIEW

As Adelaide Strikers prepare to face Hobart Hurricanes for the second time this season, the mantra is simple – stop the rampaging D’Arcy Short.

The prolific Hurricanes batsman has now scored 465 runs from seven matches – including 96 (58) earlier this month when these two sides met and looms as the difference in what should be a blockbuster evening at Adelaide Oval.

The Strikers currently sit second on the table behind Perth Scorchers, but have an extra game to play. Win tonight and they could very well see themselves topping the BBL|07 in just over two weeks times.

As for the Hurricanes, they’re the hottest team in the competition after rattling off five consecutive wins to sit third as it stands. The men in purple beat the Strikers on January 4 by seven runs and will look to complete the clean sweep against Adelaide later tonight.

We’re set for another evening of BBL fireworks in front of what should be another packed Adelaide Oval crowd.

Join us from 7.30pm AEDT (7.00pm ACST) on 5AA in Adelaide, NTS Digital around the country or through the Cricket Australia app as we bring you the best coverage of Adelaide Strikers against Hobart Hurricanes.
