AFL “off books” drug testing bombshell throws league’s ethics into spotlight

AFL players who confided in their clubs about illicit drug use were given “off the books” drug tests to avoid being detected on game days, a Federal MP has claimed.

Federal member for Clark Andrew Willkie claims he has a statement from former Demons club doctor Zeeshan Arain which backs the assertion.

Partner at Major law firm Thomson Geer Justin Quill told Millsy and Karl onĀ 6PR Breakfast the bigger story is the potential implication that the AFL is knowingly allowing players to take part in games while under the influence.

“The fact that they, having tested, then say, ‘OK, you’re not playing tomorrow’ I would’ve thought is the better approach, rather than hoping they don’t test you,” Mr Quill said.
