In a WA first, a team of specialists has been deployed at Royal Perth Hospital to proactively manage patient aggression and support staff, in an initiative that is intended to be rolled out at other hospitals.

Hayley Makuch, Project Manager of EMHS Major Projects, and Damian Cann, Director of Nursing at RPH, spoke to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont about the initiative aimed at addressing the daily challenges of antisocial behaviour faced by hospital staff.

“About a quarter of our staff will experience physical violence during their time, and that’s actually a global trend. About 70% of hospital staff will have some type of verbal aggression as well,” said Damian
