A win for WA’s community kindies

Jamie Burnett

The future of Pineview and Mt Helena community kindies has finally been resolved.

They have been given approval to continue to operate despite fearing they would be closed over low enrolment numbers. They are required to have 16 children enrolled.

The alternative kindy model, which offers play-based learning, are each run by their own parent committee. There are currently 18 community kindies operating in WA.

Community Kindergartens Association WA President Jo Matthewson told Oliver Peterson they are “very relieved.”

“One huge positive is they [Department of Education] has offered assistance to the committees to help them come up with strategies and planning to help increase enrolments.”
