Teachers could be paid almost $150,000 a year in a new proposal unveiled by the New South Wales government.

Given the category ‘expert’, teachers who are assessed as “expert” will be rewarded with a higher salary – as a way of recognising the skills they bring to the classroom.

Bevan Ripp, President of the Principals Federation WA told Oly Peterson on Perth Live that he isn’t a fan of the idea.

“Expert is an interesting term because I’ve always viewed expert as ‘X’ being the unknown quantity, and a spurt is just a drip under pressure,” he said.

“So I hate the term expert in the first place.”
