‘Don’t put up with this sort of behaviour’

Consumer Protection has urged West Australians to come to them with complaints about “up-selling” saying tradies may be breaching consumer law by misleading customers needing home repairs.

It follows numerous reports of plumbing companies over-charging for minor repairs and making them sound more costly than they are.

In one case, an elderly couple was told they needed all pipes in their roof replaced at a cost of $15,000  the quote was more than halved following a complaint.

Consumer Protection Commissioner Dave Hillyard says companies can’t just pass off the over-inflated costs as “up-selling.”
