The chief executive of ARIA has cautioned the federal government against modifying copyright laws to accommodate AI developers like OpenAI and Anthropic, warning that such changes could allow tech companies to use Australian music without consulting individual artists.

Speaking to 6PR Long Lunch host Tod Johnston, Annabelle Herd said local musicians risk being replaced if protection laws are diluted.

“We have to be able to say yes or no and then if we say yes this is the terms you can use our music on and if we can’t do that then it is doomsday as they can just make fake music and replace us,” she said.
