Contamination concerns: ‘Bin juice’ build-up threatens Perth aquifer
A total of 167 Olympic pools of bin juice from Perth’s Tamala Park Waste Management Facility are seeping into the ground, potentially contaminating the groundwater.

Western Sydney University School of Science associate professor Ian Wright told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont that there were concerns that there was not sufficient lining to stop the leachate, and that the bin juice could be infiltrating nearby houses and the aquifer.
“As soon as I looked up where this was, I thought, ‘Oh, why would you put a rubbish landfill depot there, so close to the ocean, so close to the groundwater?’ ”, he said.
