A violent, fatal shoplifting incident in Melbourne has reignited the debate over how to combat retail crime.

Press PLAY to hear Fleur Brown discuss the rise in retail crime and proposed barring orders

Australian Retail Association chief industry engagement officer Fleur Brown told 6PR Drive host Mark Doran that shoplifting involving threatening behaviour has risen by 17 per cent.

With 60 per cent of retail crime committed by just 10 per cent of offenders, Western Australia is considering the introduction of retail barring orders.

“Barring orders can be put in place to make sure that that person or those people are unable to return to that location for at least a year”, she said.
