In 1961, Cat Haven was founded to provide refuge for homeless, abandoned and unwanted cats.

Today, 65 years later, the shelter continues to face an increasing number of cats requiring care, with over 8,500 cats rescued annually – a 9 per cent year-on-year increase.

Press PLAY to hear Roz Robinson discuss the challenges facing Cat Haven

Cat Haven chief executive Roz Robinson told 6PR Long Lunch host Tod Johnston that it costs the refuge $9 million a year to run, and the government only funds 1.6 per cent of that to help manage this community issue.

“There’s something wrong out there that we have been trying for 65 years to fix and it’s beyond our control”, she said.
