Morawa is facing a crisis as hundreds of thousands of mice from surrounding paddocks spill into local homes, prompting farmers to criticise the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority’s slow response.

Karen Chappel, who serves as both a farmer and shire president of Morawa, told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont that beyond crop destruction, the plague presents major community health concerns.

“Until we control these hundreds of thousands of mice in our paddocks, we are not going to be able to control the infestation of mice in our towns and in our houses. It’s just a fight that we can’t win,” she said.
