NDIS cuts threaten to derail the government’s own disability strategy goals
The federal government plans to cut the cost of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to recoup $35 billion in the May budget, describing the changes as “hard but unavoidable”.

Paediatric speech therapist Rachel Loughridge told 6PR Mornings host Chrissy Morrissy that the cuts will impede the government’s own disability strategy, which aims to ensure people with disability are equal members of society.
She goes on to question why mild to moderate autism is excluded from the NDIS, given the scheme was built for permanent and significant disability.
“We are potentially going to lose out on a lot of intensive early intervention and we are going to see a lot of families without the support they need to help manage their kids and the significant issues they’re facing,” she said.
