The NRL reports it may shift to an auction model for media rights, similar to those used by the NFL and NBA in the United States.

Colin Smith, sports rights analyst at Global Media Sports, explained to 6PR Drive host Jamie Burnett that a large percentage of the code’s revenue is driven by sports media rights.

“It’s not like everyone can still afford to pay the same dollars going forward when their profit margins are reducing,” he said.
