Since the legalisation of medical cannabis in 2016, the industry has boomed, with 700,000 Australians using it in the last 12 months.

John Ryan, CEO of the Pennington Institute, explained to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that prescribers fear confidence in the medication is being undermined by gaps in the regulations.

“There are definitely some dodgy players in the industry, and they need to be weeded out, but I’d hate to see some bad apples actually spoil the whole system because people are really benefiting from it,” he said.
