‘The federal AMA blindsided us’: WA Australia Medical Association parts ways with national body

Western Australia’s doctors lack federal representation after the state branch publicly separated from the national Australian Medical Association.

Australian Medical Association WA President Dr Michael Page joined Oliver Peterson on Perth Live to discuss WA’s separation from the national AMA.

“We simply wanted to have a conversation, the negotiations became difficult, but they were going, and then yesterday the federal AMA blindsided us by telling us they were cutting off negotiations,” Dr Page said.

“I don’t see this as the end of the road, I see this as a step in a longer negation, we do support having a federal AMA, we want our members to be associated with that, we want our organisation to be associated with the federal AMA, we’ll keep working away on it.”
