Ending months of speculation, Basil Zempilas has confirmed he will indeed be running for state politics.

The Perth Lord Mayor will be seeking WA Liberal Party preselection for the seat of Churchlands.

“Clearly I didn’t rush into a decision,”  Mr Zempilas told Jamie Burnett on Weekends in his first live interview since news broke in The West Australian. 

“But I feel really comfortable with where I’ve arrived… and to be honest very excited.”
