The enormous success of the FIFA Women’s World Cup appears set to impact other sports, with Cricket Australia already recording significant growth in female participation.

General Manager of Community Cricket at WA Cricket Jo Davies spoke with Julie-anne Sprague on Afternoons and said the growth in female participation didn’t happen overnight,

“We’ve been trying to grow participation for girls and women for the last three or four years…it’s been fantastic to see the growth continue.”

Davies said cricket’s sustainability is driven by children who learn the foundations early,

“We’re trying to get more girls into our Cricket Blast program, which is our entry-level program and we haven’t traditionally had a lot of girls join our game right from the very beginning of their sporting journey.”
