Woodside drilling at the Browse Basin is once again on the cards, with public consultation reopened.

Matt Roberts, Executive Director of the Conservation Council WA, explained to Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that Woodside has made amendments to address concerns, but argues that, because of the proximity to the biodiverse hotspot Scott Reef, the risk is too high.

“There is still a risk that an accident will happen, and that accident would be catastrophic to Scott Reef,” he said.

Simon then spoke to Aaron Morey from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who agreed this is one of the most pivotal decisions the state has faced, but maintains the project needs to go ahead.
“We’re satisfied that the deep, rigorous research has been done on this project. We are champions for the project because of the economic and social benefits that it brings,” he said.
