Why there could be Christmas parcel delivery ‘chaos’ ahead

Dozens of FedEx workers have walked off the job in protest over pay and job security amid an ongoing spat with the delivery giant.

The company is refusing to budge on negotiations, and said workers who take part won’t be allowed to complete their shift and will also be banned from their next full shift.

The Transport Workers’ Union say the company is playing with fire as it warns of parcel delivery “chaos” ahead of Christmas with nation-wide strikes planned across the week.

Speaking with Oliver Peterson, state secretary Tim Dawson said these workers ‘never missed a beat’ during COVID lock downs and just want to be treated with respect.

“FedEx should give them a decent pay rise and acknowledge the hard work they done,” he said.

“People called transport workers heroes during the pandemic, even our Premier.

“FedEx needs to recognise that and give them dignity and job security.”

FedEx is the only major delivery company yet to come to an agreement with workers.
