Why The Camfield could be closed for start of AFL season
Western Australia’s biggest pub The Camfield is likely to remain closed while the state’s level two restrictions that kick in Thursday remain in place.
Owner Tim McLernon said about 350 staff at his 4000sqm pub across from Optus Stadium faced the prospect of no work for at least the next month.
“It feels ridiculous that we keep on being told we’re the most vaxxed place in the world and we have the most restrictions, of anywhere, it’s just such a bizarre situation that we’re having to deal with,” he told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast.
The Camfield’s closure would impact WA footy fans who normally pack the venue before AFL matches at Optus Stadium, which by contrast is permitted to operate at 50 per cent capacity, or approximately 30,000 patrons, on game days.
