Why student illiteracy is on the rise

New research has revealed kids are starting high school behind on literacy and numeracy skills. 

Australian Education Research Organisation program director Dan Carr told Julia-anne Sprague on 6PR Afternoons teachers are absorbing extra pressures. 

“It has profound consequences for these one in five children,” said Mr Carr.  

“Secondary school teachers traditionally haven’t been trained to accommodate these students.”
