New research has found it’s not just humans facing an obesity epidemic, but pets are too.

Over 40 per cent of dogs and over 35 per cent of cats are classified as overweight or obese.

Bondi Vet and Vet at the Murdoch University Animal Hospital Dr Peter Ricci told Julie-anne Sprague owners need to be careful what they give their pets.

“It is up to us as pet owners to make sure that they are within a healthy weight,” said Dr Ricci.

“We’re killing them with kindness… we start over loving them.”
