After previous riots at Banksia Hill, before the New Year Eve uprising, some detainees were taken to an empty unit at Casurina Prison, sparking controversy.

However, Energy Corrective Services Minister Bill Johnston believes despite recent events, Banksia Hill is in the best state it has ever been in.

Mr Johnston told 6PR Mornings violence cannot be excused.

“I have asked the department to take action against the perpetrators…. no one can excuse violence,” said Minister Johnston.

“We’re investing 100 million into improving Banksia Hill.”
