A study which found one in five coronary stents implanted in the US unnecessary and unsafe has led to fears Australia has a similar issue.

Cardiologist, Dr Brett Forge, says the safety issue arises from the procedure.

“Over the last twenty years, there’s been repeated studies which show instable angina as opposed to someone having an acute heart attack, it doesn’t reduce mortality,” he told Gary Adshead.
