Europe has banned the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2035, and it’s likely only a matter of time before Australia does the same.

Australian Electric Vehicle Association president Chris Jones told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings Australia won’t lag far behind.

“As an importer of vehicles, Australia will be forced to follow along, which we don’t have a problem with,” Mr Jones said.

“I think 2035 is actually quite a conservative guess. We’ll probably get there a bit sooner than that.”

Mr Jones predicts Australians will see electric vehicle prices fall in the next two or three years, while petrol car prices will rise.

“I think people will come around to it before too long,” he said.
