Australians holidaying overseas in the future will have access to insurance that covers getting sick with COVID.

Australian Federation of Travel Agents CEO Dean Long told Millsy at Midday host Steve Mills there was massive interest in people wanting to get back overseas before Omicron took hold last month.

“There’s some really good travel insurance products in the market now, that weren’t there 18 months ago,” he said.

“If you go with one of the two major travel insurance products offered by your local travel agent, you’ll be able to get the right medical assistance you’ll need.”

Mr Long stressed it was essential the destination you were travelling to was approved on DFAT’s Smart Traveller website to ensure access to travel insurance that also covered getting COVID-19.
