The Australian Hotels Association (AHA) are urging all patrons to repect hopsitality staff at venues around the state when asked about COVID-19 vaccination status or wearing a mask.

Australian Hotels Association WA CEO Bradley Woods says the restrictions in WA are mandated by the government, not individual venues.

“There are some real idiots out there that know there’s a mask mandate and are deciding to really throw one on and object to not wearing their masks even though they don’t have a valid excuse,” he said.

Workers from venues around the state say they have copped attacks both online and in person since the mandate was enforced.

The AHA has spoken with it’s members about what to do in the event of abuse.

“We’ve provided instructions and detailed information to our members around what their legal options are,” Mr Woods said.

Current restrictions require masks to be worn in all indoor public venues, with proof of vaccination required at nightclubs, pubs, taverns, hotels with a capacity of more than 500 people or these specific licensed venues that trade after midnight.

“We’re calling a time out on the behaviour,” Mr Woods said.
